I can honestly say that I love my job and for most of society they can’t say that. Another astonishing fact is that this is my first job I have ever had. I am currently a dispatcher for, Century Towing, a well known towing and recovery company in Virginia Beach. This company is somewhat like a tight knit family and most jobs aren’t like that. My employer actually cares about the people who work for him. This is the best job I have ever had.

I started working as a part time dispatcher when I was sixteen years old. My father had worked here for ten years prior so the owner and other long time employees saw me grow up. Most kids don’t get a real formal office job for their first job so feel lucky. Also telling your father what to do and where to go is a huge role reversal. However it is a very demanding job and aggravated customers can make you crazy. That’s why I can also say that I have learned a lot from this job. The towing industry is a very unforgiving line of work. My boss says, “If you can succeed here and keep your focus you’re set for a a lot of things in life.”

The things I have learned are a tremendous asset to me. Dealing with irate vehicle owners and keeping your cool is something not learned over night. Customer service is always key but some customers will try to manipulate you. There are rules I have to follow and enforcing those rules to angry persons is not easy. I love this job because I get to deal with new obstacles every day and teaches me life lessons. It also doesn’t hurt that I am excellent at my profession. So, if the car isn’t starting call Century we’ll come get you. Just act with some dignity if you’re calling.
